Homemade Almond Milk: Susu Almond From Roasted Almonds
Two ingredients and a blender. How to make creamy susu almond at home from roasted almonds — why roasting first means more flavour, what to do with the leftover pulp, and when to reach for the ready-made carton instead.

Almond milk has a dirty secret: many commercial cartons are 2% almonds and 98% water, gums and flavouring. The fix is either making your own — which takes two ingredients — or reading labels the way we are about to teach you. This is both.
Why we start from roasted almonds
Most recipes call for raw almonds. Try it once with roasted ones and you will not go back: roasting caramelises the natural sugars, so the milk comes out subtly toasty and naturally sweet — closer to the almond milk you get at a good café. Our Roasted Almond 225 g is dry-roasted with nothing added, which is exactly what you want here (skip the salted ones for milk).
How to make susu almond (cara membuat)
- 1 cup (140 g) roasted almonds
- 4 cups (1 L) drinking water, plus more for soaking
- Optional: a date or a teaspoon of honey, a pinch of sea salt
- Soak the almonds in water for 4–8 hours (overnight in the fridge is easiest). Roasted almonds soften faster than raw.
- Drain and rinse, then blend with 1 litre of fresh water on high for a full 2 minutes — count it, most people stop early.
- Strain through a clean thin cloth or fine sieve, squeezing hard to get every drop.
- Season with honey and a pinch of salt if you like, then bottle.
Keeps 3–4 days refrigerated. It will separate — that is what a drink with no stabilisers does. Shake and carry on.
Separation is not a flaw. It is what almond milk looks like when nobody added gums to stop it.
Do not throw away the pulp
The leftover almond pulp (ampas) is basically wet almond flour. Spread it on a tray, dry it in a low oven, and fold it into pancake batter — a spoonful in our Classic Pancake Mix makes nuttier, more filling pancakes. Zero waste, better breakfast.
When the carton wins
Homemade susu almond is a weekend project; Tuesday is not a weekend. For the days in between we make Almond Drink Original, Unsweetened for coffee people, and Chocolate for children (and adults pretending it is for children). Same principle as everything we make: a short label you could reproduce in your own kitchen.
Quick FAQ
Why is my homemade almond milk thin?
Too much water or too little blending. Use the 1:4 ratio above, blend the full two minutes, and squeeze the cloth like you mean it.
