How to Make Granola at Home — and What Granola Actually Is

Granola adalah oat panggang dengan madu dan kacang — and that is genuinely all it should be. Here is our real small-batch method, the same one behind every Francis pack, plus when it is worth just buying it ready-made.

How to Make Granola at Home — and What Granola Actually Is

We make granola for a living, and we are still going to teach you how to make it yourself. That is what clean label means to us: there is nothing in our packs we would not happily write out as a recipe.

In English: granola is whole oats baked with honey and a little oil until crisp, then mixed with nuts, seeds and dried fruit. If an ingredient list on a granola pack runs much longer than that sentence, ask why.

How to make homemade granola (our base method)

This is the honest, minimal version — the same logic we scale up in our own kitchen:

  • 250 g rolled oats
  • 80 g honey (real honey, not glucose syrup)
  • 3 tablespoons coconut oil
  • A pinch of sea salt
  • A handful of sliced almonds, cashews or seeds
  1. Warm the honey and coconut oil until they pour easily, then stir in the salt.
  2. Coat the oats and nuts evenly — every flake should look glossy, not wet.
  3. Spread thin on a tray and bake low and slow at 150°C for 25–30 minutes, stirring once halfway.
  4. Here is the secret to clusters: do not touch it while it cools. Granola crisps as it cools, not in the oven.
  5. Add dried fruit only after baking, or it turns bitter and hard.

Low oven, real honey, and patience while it cools. That is the whole trick — there is no step we skip and no ingredient we hide.

Where homemade granola goes wrong

Three mistakes cause almost every failed batch: an oven that is too hot (browned outside, raw inside), too much sweetener (it burns), and stirring while it cools (no clusters). If your granola tastes like caramel popcorn, the label on your honey probably says syrup.

When it is worth just buying it

Homemade granola is wonderful and takes about an hour, a working oven, and six ingredients you trust. On the weeks you do not have those, that is exactly what we are here for. Our Granola Original is the base recipe above, roasted in small batches; Mixed Fruit and Walnut & Cranberry build on it with fruit and nuts we would put in our own bowls. The ingredient list on the back reads like this recipe, because it is this recipe.

Quick FAQ

Apakah granola sehat untuk sarapan?

Ya — selama gulanya wajar. Perhatikan label: oat harus jadi bahan pertama, dan pemanisnya sebaiknya madu, bukan sirup fruktosa.

Can I make granola without an oven?

Yes — toast the oats and nuts in a dry pan over low heat, then stir in warmed honey off the heat and let it cool undisturbed. You will get looser granola, fewer clusters, same flavour.

How long does homemade granola keep?

Two to three weeks in an airtight jar — if it lasts that long.
